Valenzuela City, Metro Manila—The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) joined forces with the City Government of Valenzuela for “Operation Timbangan” at the Karuhatan Public Market on January 15. To protect consumers and ensure fair trade practices, this initiative focused on inspecting and verifying the accuracy of weighing scales and measuring devices used by vendors.
DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau Director Regino Mallari Jr. participated in the operation, which saw officials examining weighing equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards. Scales found to be inaccurate or faulty were destroyed and disposed, preventing their further use and safeguarding consumers from deceptive practices.
Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian led the operation, underscoring the city’s commitment to consumer protection. The initiative was coordinated by the Valenzuela Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIPO) and its Consumer Welfare Unit, led by LEDIPO Officer-in-Charge Janina Bautista. City Councilor Ghogo Deato Lee, and Barangay Chair Martel Soledad also lent their support to the operation. END (Photo Release).
