Muntinlupa City, Philippines—Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary and National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC) Chair Cristina A. Roque affirmed the stable prices and sufficient supply of basic necessities and prime commodities. This came during the agency’s intensified price and supply monitoring in public markets and grocery stores on May 29.

“Under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the DTI is working tirelessly to make sure that no Filipino family is left worrying about whether they can afford their next meal. By keeping a close eye on prices in markets and stores, we are doing our part to keep everyday goods within reach of every household,” said Secretary Roque

“Through these efforts, we are helping turn the Bagong Pilipinas vision into reality—one where every Filipino family can sit down to a table with enough food, dignity, and hope,” the trade chief added.

During the inspection, the DTI validated the prices and availability of 237 stock keeping units (SKUs) in supermarkets. These included commonly purchased items such as bread, coffee, canned goods, instant noodles, and other processed foods.

The DTI confirmed that all monitored items were sold at or below their respective suggested retail prices (SRPs), enabling a 100% compliance rate across both physical and online stores this year.

In addition to price checks, the activity highlighted proper pricing practices through the verification of the “Timbangan ng Bayan” weighing scales and a visit to the Kadiwa ng Pangulo rice stall.

To complement these efforts, the DTI chief joined Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. in inspecting 11 public market stalls. The team focused its assessment of price and market conditions on vendors selling rice, pork, poultry, fish, and vegetables.

This activity is part of the ongoing DTI-DA joint monitoring initiative, which has conducted 20 market inspections this year. It supports the DA’s Food Security Program, aiming to improve agricultural systems and market access to agricultural goods.

As the lead agency of the NPCC, the DTI also works in close collaboration with other national agencies and local government units to implement price stabilization measures, helping ensure that basic goods remain accessible and fairly priced.

Supporting the monitoring were DTI Fair Trade Group Supervising Head and Assistant Secretary Agaton Teodoro O. Uvero, DTI Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau Director Regino D. Mallari Jr., DA Undersecretary Roger Navarro, DA Assistant Secretaries Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra and Arnel De Mesa, DA Director Junibert De Sagun, Food Terminal Inc. President Joseph Rudolf Lo, and several representatives from the Muntinlupa City Government Office.
